« MacOS Sequoia: Be careful of OS upgrades

Apple will be promoting its latest Operating System, Mac OS Sequoia, as an upgrade for all of the computers that will technically run it.

BE VERY VERY CAREFUL BEFORE YOU DO THIS.

Operating System changes invariably break software on the computer being upgraded.  If all you use are Apple's products (Safari, Mail. Photos and Music) this likely does not matter as they will also be upgraded.  However, any business of any kind will have all kinds of software requirements that will be weeks to months or even longer before they are compatible.  If you upgrade without making SURE that mission critical software on your computer will run under the new operating system, you risk disabling your computer, and requiring an expensive and time consuming repair.  We have to copy your computer, erase it, install the earlier operating system, and then migrate your data back.  This is not cheap.

As a general rule of thumb, we always recommend that you ignore new software released until the second update is released (X.2 or X.0.2) because all new software is bug riddled.  If you have mission critical software on your computer, ALWAYS confirm that it will work under the new OS before you upgrade.

Thus endeth the lesson.....
